Bellaquin

From Project: Redcap

Bellaquin is a famous covenant of primarily Jerbiton magi in the Provençal Tribunal. It is located in Andorra. Bellaquin is described in full detail in Faith and Flame, pages 80-83.

In 1220, Bellaquin is at the height of its Summer (or perhaps early Autumn and is famed throughout the Order of Hermes as "one of the most beautiful and magnificent edifices in the Order"[1].

The covenant was once deeply involved in mundane affairs, ruling an area of the countryside and even having feudal vassals[1]. It managed to avoid sanctions from the Tribunal by successfully advocating a permissive interpretation of the Peripheral Code, but eventually provoked the ire of mundane neighbors and was sacked and forced to relocate.

Bellaquin is now located in the village of Ordino in Andorra.[1] It has become much subtler about its mundane engagements since relocating, but still retains strong connections to the mundane world[2]

Bellaquin in Past Editions

In Arm2, Bellaquin was the example Summer covenant in the early Covenants sourcebook, pages 49-53. It was described as "deeply involved ... in the world of mortals"[3] and "smack in the middle of the mortal world"[3] It was inhabited by twelve magi, mostly from House Jerbiton, who shared a passion for music and the arts. It was located in the Denier river valley near Toulouse[3]

The Second Edition Covenants gives a full description of the physical site and inhabitants. This has been superseded by the Fifth Edition description of the covenant, because according to Fifth Edition canon, Bellaquin relocated in 1202 AD[1].
