Project: Redcap; the crossroads of the Order

Published Starting Characters

From Project: Redcap

The following characters have been pre-made as starting characters. You can pick up and play them as-is, or use them as examples or a base for comparison. Note that your saga may have some house rules or advanced magi, so you may need to change the character to fit it.

Most starting characters are young, 25 year old magi straight out of gauntlet. Most first sagas begin with such characters (as per the book's advice, on p. 29), and they are suitable as new recruits for more advanced sagas as well.

Standard Core Rulebook

Darius of Flambeau (core book, p. 34-35) is the example used in the book to explain character generation. Unlike most starting characters, Darius is rather old (62 years past gauntlet), which means he's probably too powerful to serve as a starting character for most sagas.

Guardians of the Forest

Tabanus of Guernicus (GotF p. 21) is also a bit old (15 years out of gauntlet), but still "suitable as a player character".

Felicia of Bonisagus (GotF p. 23) is just out of gauntlet, an example of a Trianoma maga.

Ioannes of Merinita (GotF p. 106) is a Merinita knight, knighted by a Faerie court.

Semita Errabunda

The "living covenant of Semita Errabunda" was a free web-product released by Atlas Games, as an example covenant. Its character sheets, which can be found on Atlas' site or as open game content, include:

Carolus of House Tytalus: A slippery thief, 9 years post-gauntlet.

Mari Amwithig of House Merinita: Although a Merinita maga, she lacks Faerie Blood, which has driven her to try to prove herself. She is drawn to dark and destructive magic, and carries herself with theatrics exceeding her age and might. At age 28, she is a few years post-Gauntlet.

Tillitus of House Bonisagus: Fresh out of Gauntlet but older than his peers (age 35), this Bonisagus magus is unlucky, clumsy, and often drunk.

Magi of Hermes

All magi in this book are provided statistics at Gauntlet, as well as later in their life.

Alexander of Jerbiton: A magus who spends his life exploring the deserts of North Africa, developing spells to change himself and his attendants into animals to better travel in those harsh lands.

Aurulentus of Jerbiton: This seventh son of a seventh son is deeply concerned with his family, and develops many spell effects concerned with health, fertility, and care for children as a result.

Conscientia of Bonisagus: This “lab rat” develops effects to order for other magi, to gather resources for her own research project that has yet to bear fruit.

Gwidion of Verditius: A master at magically enhancing plants, his greatest creation may be the living tree that serves as his home.

Hugh of Flambeau: A magus who relishes physical combat, and who has developed many spells and enchanted items to make him a more formidable opponent.

Julia of Ex Miscellanea: This weaver’s faerie blood lets her produce enchanted cloth and clothing of the highest caliber, though she rejects her heritage and as a result is tormented by her fey ancestor — a spider prince.

Lambert of Merinita: This trader of goods and materials uses his magic to support his mercantile activities and his family, and overcome the social handicap of his Gift.

Maris of Tytalus: A magus who lives at sea, constantly testing his magic against the raw fury of the elements, and searching beneath its waters for ancient magical sites.

Marcus of Criamon: This giant-blooded magus seeks to create living beings by combining the features of two or more existing creatures, with the minotaur as his final goal.

Persephone of Tytalus: Driven by vengeance against her pater, she and her disfigured sister use magic to enhance their network of agents, giving them a great deal of mundane influence.

Petalichus of Verditus: Spinning webs of intrigue through the use of secret Mysteries, this crafter of seemingly humble devices is as secretive, manipulative, and vindictive as his arachnid familiar implies.

Ranulf of Flambeau: This magus aims to master fire magic, developing a wide range of new spells and effects, including non-violent applications of this Art.

Scipio of Merinita: Casting his magic through music and illusion, this son of a faerie king searches for his true love despite his father’s interference.

Tolides of Flambeau: The apprentice of a marched Infernalist, he is obsessed with darkness and cold as a result of the influence of demons that still surround him, waiting for him to fall.

Yestin of Jerbiton: A traveling bard, whose magic enhances his music and makes his journeys easier, even as he’s plagued by a meddlesome faerie.

Iasper filius Adanos of House Tytalus: Just 4 years post-Gauntlet, Iasper is interested in reined chaos, which he believes is the route to self-understanding. Unlike many of his house, he provokes conflict beyond his capacity to control, seeing the vagaries of chance as a learning experience.

The Church

Tibor Milos: Fresh out of his Gauntlet (age 25), this young Tremere is burderned by lycanthropy.

Matilda Page: A young (age 30) Verditius maga, intent on learning the Mysteries of her House and, even, of hedge wizards such as the Rusticani.

Andrew of House Jerbiton: A poet, using his magic to assist others more than to accomplish things on his own. He is straight out of Gauntlet (age 25).

cAilleAch Dhé Dherg: A Verditius maga, though young (age 31) has already started to build her laboratory, talisman, and is an Inventive Genius geared towards advancing in her House's mysteries.

Dara Connachtach: Dara summons, bargains with, and controls elemental spirits through the art of Sihr, and has ties to the druids and hedge wizards of Connacht. At 28 years old, he is only a few years post-Gauntlet.

Eochaid Dubh: A young (age 32) Merinita magus, with an affinity for Imaginem and a Magical Focus in visual images.

Mícheál Amhreaidh: A sombre pagan Mercurian, worshipping the kosmokratos Domnu. He is a member of House Tytalus, age 34.

Balina of Bonisagus: A journeyman maga of the Ash Gild in the Rhine Tribunal, this young (age 26) maga aims to learn about and perhaps integrate Nordic magic.

Tiberius of Flambeau: A Flambeau in the school of Ramius, fousing on knightly ways and melee combat. Age 30.

Freki of Bjornaer: A hunter, she seeks to differentiate between enemies who must be vanquished and those few individual hedge wizards that can be assimilated. She has a wolf heartbeast, and a member of Clan Arelie, and is 30 years old.

Julia of Tremere: This Gentle Gifted maga is a trader, focusing on developing her social contacts and local knowledge and influence, using her magic with delicacy and discretion.

Thrice Told Tales

Quaesitor Eutropia of Guernicus: Eutropia's pater is a highly respected and influencial quaesitor back home, so great things are expected of her. She asked to be assigned to a region away from her pater’s influence, where she could make her own name. Though young, and lacking in many skills and areas, she has an impressive talent for investigating magical and other supernatural effects. Age 32.
