The Apprentice's Gauntlet is the final test an Hermetic apprentice must complete before being permitted to call himself a magus. The actual procedure of the test varies greatly between houses, and the master of the apprentice is the final arbiter for whether the filius is considered worthy, though an unjust case can be propagates to Quesitorial examination.

It is not before the Gauntlet that an apprentice obtains his last, but certainly not least ability from his parens: Parma Magica.
