A tradition within House Tytalus, Beloved Rivals form pairs of intense rivalry between magi, yet also respect and support. These relationships are formally declared, as it is very unwise to put oneself between two rivals, by design or by accident.

The concept has existed since the details of the houses were first introduced in the Second Edition sourcebook Houses of Hermes. A Story Flaw to provide a mechanical representation of the relationship was introduced in Houses of Hermes: Societates page 94. That work also discusses the Fifth Edition take on the relationship generally at page 80.
