A method of advancing Hermetic Magic Theory through Hermetic research, introduced in [[HoHTL]] 26.
A method of adding to a [[magical tradition]] with in the terms of it's current structure (creating a new range, duration, or target); expanding the tradition  in a manner that pushes, but does not break its [[limits of magic]]; or improving the tradition so one of those limits no longer applies, at least in certain situations.  The process in [[ArM5|Fifth Edition]] was introduced in [[Houses of Hermes: True Lineages]], pages 26-37, but [[Hedge Magic Revised Edition]] and [[Rival Magic]] provided rules for how other traditions might come to make breakthroughs in their own traditions.

The process in Fifth Edition was introduced in Houses of Hermes: True Lineages, pages 26-37, but Hedge Magic Revised Edition and Rival Magic provided rules for how other traditions might come to make breakthroughs in their own traditions.
